It appears that “Barney & Friends” was not always a happy family in real life.
The popular children’s programme that helped Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez launch their acting careers allegedly received a lot of criticism, according to the new docuseries “I Love You, You Hate Me.”
Bob West, a Barney performer, recalls receiving death threats while playing the purple dinosaur in the two-part series’ teaser.
He claims that “they were aggressive and explicit, killing and mutilating my family.” They were going to hunt me down and murder me, they said.
Sheryl Leach, Kathy Parker, and Dennis DeShazer founded the show in 1992.
“Barney is a symbol of acceptance and inclusiveness. The teaser includes a sentence that reads, “You should love everyone, we all owe Sheryl Leach gratitude for that. Why does the world love to hate?”
On Oct. 12, Peacock will air the world premiere of “I Love You, You Hate Me.”
