Industry analyst Ross Young predicts that seven foldable computers, at the very least, will be introduced in 2023.
According to the founder of the research company Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), the market for foldable laptops may expand over the course of the upcoming year as more companies release models of PCs with bending displays.
One Chinese firm is planning to release at least four foldable laptop models, and according to DSCC, there will be a “34% increase in foldable handset shipments in 2023.” However, companies creating foldable laptops are anticipated to do so in small quantities due to the anticipated recession and unknown demand for the form factor.
The Asus ZenBook Fold 17, the ThinkPad X1 Fold, and the impending HP foldable are just a few examples of the several foldable laptop models that manufacturers like Lenovo, Asus, and HP have previously unveiled.
According to Notebookcheck, new foldable laptop alternatives might inspire other businesses to experiment with novel ideas, such using larger screens.
Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Fold has already grown from a 13.3-inch screen on the first iteration to a 16.3-inch screen on the second. It also boasts additional features, such as the ability to stand up in both portrait and landscape modes via an attachment.
In addition, the DSCC anticipates that 2023 will see the release of the first rollable smartphone in addition to the arrival of at least 23 foldable phones. All of the major Android manufacturers, including Google, are claimed to have rollable display prototypes or patents related to the technology.
The X phone from Oppo is the only company to officially showcase a functional prototype of a rollable display gadget. Using an automatic “Roll Motor,” the device can grow from a 6.7-inch to a 7.4-inch display.
Even if the Oppo prototype’s specifications are known, it does not seem to be the rollable smartphone that will be available in 2023.
The first rollable display phone will reportedly be created by a Chinese company using an OLED panel display made by a Korean source, according to DSCC, which says it will confirm the maker’s identity later.
