Actor Ryan Grantham from “Riverdale” was given a life sentence for murder and will not be eligible for parole for 14 years.

Ryan Grantham, a former Riverdale and Diary of a Wimpy Kid actor, has been given a 14-year term to life in prison without the chance of parole for the murder of his mother in 2020.

Justice Kathleen Ker of the British Columbia Supreme Court delivered the standard second-degree murder sentence on September 21 in Vancouver. The only major unknown with the guilty plea Grantham’s punishment, given the statutes of the Canadian province, was how long he would have to wait before being eligible to seek for parole at the age of 24.

The nominees for the Leo Awards On March 31, 2020, in the family’s Squamish home, just north of Vancouver, Grantham shot his 64-year-old mother Barbara Waite in the back of the head before turning himself into police.

In B.C., a conviction for second-degree murder carries a sentence of 10 to 25 years without the possibility of release. In light of this, the prosecution had earlier this year requested that Grantham be barred from parole for up to 18 years during a sentencing hearing. The defence team for the former actor had requested 12 years as a reasonable punishment. Clearly, Justice Ker’s decision this week met them halfway.

Grantham has been detained for the past 2.5 years after being initially charged with first-degree murder, law enforcement officials in Vancouver confirmed to Deadline today. Grantham has been participating in a mental health programme since his incarceration, and according to insiders, he is currently being prepared for transfer to a more permanent facility.

Grantham, who has about 30 credits to his name, is best known for his 2019 role as Jeffrey Augustine in the CW soap opera Riverdale. Despite making only one brief appearance, the character was crucial to the Archie comics-based sitcom. In a hit-and-run that altered practically everything on the show, Jeffrey Augustine was the one who killed the late Luke Perry, who played Fred Andrews on the show. Beginning his career in 2007, Grantham also made appearances in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Supernatural, iZombie, and the 2010 film Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Grantham recorded a confession to the murders on camera after killing his mother, as was later discovered in court. After meticulously setting up the body in a vaguely holy manner, Grantham left the following day. He wrote in a journal that was submitted as evidence that he was planning to try to kill Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at one time, with his intentions changing frequently. Grantham also thought of carrying out a mass shooting at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver or on the well-known Lions Gate Bridge.

Thankfully, none of it happened, and Grantham instead went to the police station in East Vancouver and turned himself in. He is said to have told authorities right away at the station’s main desk, “I killed my mother.

The actor with numerous credits expressed regret for what he had done back in March of this year. Reading from a piece of paper, Grantham told the Vancouver court and Justice Ker, “In the face of something so horrific, saying sorry feels so meaningless.” But I apologise from the bottom of my heart.
