The second-generation AirPods Pro will have a day-one firmware update available at launch thanks to Apple’s release of fresh firmware today. New owners of AirPods Pro can now upgrade from the 5A374 firmware that they ship with to the 5A377 firmware.
We do not know what enhancements or bug fixes the new software for the AirPods provides because Apple has not disclosed information on what is contained in it.
Although there isn’t a set procedure for updating the software on AirPods, most firmware updates take place while the headphones are connected to an iOS smartphone over the air. After some time, forcing the update should be possible by placing the AirPods in the case, plugging them into a power source, and then pairing them with an iPad or iPhone.
To check the firmware on your AirPods or AirPods Pro, take the following actions:
Connect your iOS smartphone to your pair of AirPods or AirPods Pro.
Launch the Settings app.
Press General.
Select About.
Tap the AirPods device.
The number next to “Firmware Version” should be examined.
The software probably delivers performance enhancements and small bug fixes, but we’ll let you know about any significant changes in the firmware upgrade if we find out about them.
