An event at the Portland Art Festival is free for “Black persons” but costs $80 for everyone else.

According to the event’s website, the Portland art festival event is on Sunday and exclusively charges those who are not Black.

 

A Portland art festival that is taking place in Oregon touts that one of its events is “free or by donation for Black folks,” but charges $80 for “all others.”

 

On Sunday, there will be a Time-Based Art Festival event called Black Feast: Black Imagerial, which is described as a “culinary event celebrating Black artists and authors through cuisine.”

 

A description for the event states that “guests participate in an experience that weaves together food and art” where an event host “works with Black artists to create a multi-course, vegan, gluten-free meal based off of the artist’s work.”

 

On the event’s website, it is noted that admission is “free or by donation for Black people” and “$80 for all others.”

The Portland Institute for Contemporary Art is hosting the occasion.

The Time-Based Art Festival “pushes against this edge of what it means to make—and who can engage in—contemporary art,” according to its website.
