AOHi asserts that its upcoming crowd-funding campaign will help the user get their charging cable to the ideal length, using a new “modular” system. It is a new take on power accessories with ends rendered universal with magnetic contacts, although this one is touted as compatible with ultra-fast charging as well as with iPhones and iPads.
AOHi may be best known for its USB type-C cable with a built-in LED read-out. Its next upcoming accessory is also of that accessory category, although it does not have its own display this time. Instead, it comes as a “set” touted to solve the problems of tech users for whom their cables are always too short (…or, possibly, also too long).
This new “modular” kit consists of a central coiled cable with magnetic attachments in place of type-C connectors on either end. They are compatible with at least 2 shorter “ends”, each of which do have standard power interfaces. Therefore, the user can construct their own “custom length” wire for their smartphone, tablet and so on using this system.
AOHi notes that it can convey up to 240W of power thanks to its support for the latest USB Power Delivery (PD) 3.1 standard. Then again, the set is also apparently Made for iPhone/iPad (and iPodfor some reason); it will be interesting to see whether the set includes short ends with Lightning connectors or not.
The new modular cable kit from AOHi is slated to go live on Kickstarter in about 48 hours from now (December 12, 2022). The OEM has yet to hint at how much it might cost, although it invites potential backers to hit the “Notify me on launch” button on its preview page for a timely notification in order to get in on a “43% OFF Super Early Bird Price reward” offer.

I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
