Apple iPhone SE 4: Analyst claims 2024 postponement or cancellation of iPhone SE 2023

Ming-Chi Kuo has shared new thoughts on a next-generation iPhone SE, approximately two months after FrontPageTech leaked high-quality device renders. While the latter also provided specifications for the so-called iPhone SE 4, Kuo now claims that Apple may have postponed the project or cancelled it altogether. For reference, the iPhone SE 4 or iPhone SE (2023) was expected to launch for approximately US$500 with a 6.1-inch IPS display and an A15 Bionic chipset.

Supposedly, persistent low sales of cheaper iPhones, such as theiPhone SE 3, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 13 mini and the iPhone 14 Plushave led Apple to reassess the prospect of releasing another ‘cheap’ iPhone, particularly a fourth-generation iPhone SE. Kuo adds that there are concerns that the iPhone SE 4’s ‘full-screen design’ could be more expensive to produce than earlier models, thereby reducing profits or causing Apple to up its price relative to the current iPhone SE 3.

Kuo believes that a looming global economic recession in 2023 could also be a factor in the iPhone SE 4’s demise. This would explain why Kuo asserts that a postponement until 2024 could be on the cards. In saying that, other analysts like Ross Young have maintained that Apple would not refresh the iPhone XR as the iPhone SE 4 until 2024. Potentially, the rumoured iPhone SE Plus, which Young believed would arrive in 2023 with a 4.7-inch display, has been cancelled instead.
