Beanie Feldstein Cancels Weekend ‘Funny Girl’ Performances Due To Tonsillitis; Julie Benko Will Fill In – Update
Beanie Feldstein won’t be able to perform in Funny Girl on Broadway this weekend because she has tonsillitis and is “extremely contagious.”
This weekend, Feldstein’s old friend Julie Benko will play Fanny Brice.
Feldstein says in an Instagram video that was posted this afternoon, “At some point, you just have to laugh.” “It pours on your old friend Beanie when it rains.”
Feldstein says in the video that she just got back from an appointment with her ENT doctor and that the doctor told her she can’t go on stage until the antibiotics she’s taking make her no longer contagious.
She says, “The last thing on earth I would want is to make people I love sick, and I’m just not allowed to go on stage through the weekend.”
Feldstein’s recent announcement that she was leaving the show for good on July 31 made a lot of news, which only got bigger the next day when Lea Michele was cast as her replacement. In her new Instagram video, she starts with a joke: “Hey everyone, I’m just checking in. What did I forget? What has been happening? I’ll start…”
Before Michele arrives on September 6, Benko will play the role of Fanny for the month of August. After that, the show will be on Thursday nights.
