Ben Kweller is ‘completely shocked’ by the death of his 16-year-old son Dorian.

“As long as we’re here on Earth, we’ll never get over him,” the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter stated.

 

Ben Kweller, a singer-songwriter, has spoken out following the loss of his 16-year-old son, Dorian.

 

The Noise Company, the Grammy nominee’s record company, stated on Facebook that Dorian, an aspiring artist, died in “a sad occurrence” Monday night. According to Variety, the adolescent was killed in an automobile accident.

 

On Tuesday, Kweller shared an emotional Instagram post about his loss.

 

“There’s no way I’m typing this, yet I am…. “Last night, our son, Dorian Zev Kweller, was murdered,” he wrote. “He was only 16 when he became a legend. The sweetest, gentlest soul, a friend to all. You’d know if you knew him. We’ll never get over him as long as we’re alive.”

 

The musician from Austin, Texas, went on to laud his son’s musical abilities, calling him “a true poet from the day he started speaking.” He mentioned that Dorian, who went by the stage name Zev, was preparing to perform at the South by Southwest festival later this month.

 

“My young boy was standing at the starting line, with his entire life ahead of him… “I’m not sure why things like this happen,” Kweller explained. “We’re completely stunned and have no idea what the future holds.”

 

Kweller and his wife, Liz, have a 12-year-old son named Judah.

 

Kweller, a native of San Francisco, began his music career in his teens as a member of the post-grunge band Radish. In 2002, he released “Sha Sha,” his first solo album. His fifth studio album, “Go Fly a Kite,” garnered a 2013 Grammy nomination for Best Recording Package.

 

Kweller has toured with Ed Sheeran and Death Cab for Cutie in recent years. “Circuit Boredom,” his most recent album, was published in 2020.

 

By Wednesday afternoon, Kweller’s tweet had received sympathies from a slew of celebrities, including actor Tommy Dorfman and Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney.

 

“Heartbreaks,” wrote Pete Yorn, a singer-songwriter. “I’m at a loss for words. My heartfelt sympathies to you and your family.”
