Broadway musical ‘Some Like It Hot’ reveals its cast

Deadline reports that the musical adaption of Billy Wilder’s 1959 Billy Wilder film “Some Like It Hot” will launch this autumn after multiple delays due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

 

Christian Borle, a veteran of the Broadway stage who was previously cast in “Into the Woods” at New York City Center before being replaced by Neil Patrick Harris, is in charge of the project.

Tony Curtis’ part of Joe/Josephine will be portrayed by Borle, while J. Harrison Ghee’s role of Jerry/Daphne will be played by J. Harrison Ghee.

 

Adrianna Hicks has been cast in the role of Sugar, which Marilyn Monroe made famous.

All three members of the ensemble have been a part of the production from its workshop run and will be there when it makes its Broadway debut.

 

Kevin Del Aguila, Natasha Yvette Williams, Adam Heller, and Mark Lotito all appear in the show. The identities of the rest of the actors are still being kept under wraps.

Two musicians witness a mob hit and are forced to disguise themselves as women in an all-female band to evade the pursuing mobsters in “Some Like It Hot,” set in Prohibition-era Chicago.

In addition to a book by Tony Award winner Matthew Lopez and Amber Ruffin, the musical will have music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, as well as a director by Casey Nicholaw, and will be staged in New York City in 2015.

Musical producers have announced that previews will begin on November 1 and the show’s official opening night will be on December 11 at the Shubert Theatre in New York City. COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the show’s Chicago premiere, which had been scheduled to open the season.
