Budget-friendly AMD Ryzen 5 5500 price drops a massive 38% to below US$100 on Amazon

At its MSRP of US$159, the Zen 3 Ryzen 5 5500 is hard to recommend, because for slightly more money, you can get better performing chips. For instance, the Ryzen 5 5600 costs US$40 more but it performs quite a lot better in application as well as gaming workloads. Even the cheaper Core i3-12100/F manages to beat the Ryzen 5 5500 in gaming.

Per Tom’s Hardwarethe Ryzen 5 5500 achieves an average frame rate of 129 fps at 1080p across the tested games when paired with an RTX 3090. At 1440p, the average fps rises to 135. As a comparison, the similarly positioned Core i3-12100 stands at 137 fps at 1080p and 141 at 1440p.

Put simply, the sub-US$100 price makes the Ryzen 5 5500 an excellent buy for budget-conscious PC gamers.
