Two of America’s most recognizable musical acts announced Monday they are performing at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration eventswith the hope of helping unify the country.Carrie Underwood and the Village People each said they will be singing Monday on Inauguration Day, joining country star Lee Greenwood and opera singer Christopher Macchio, among others.

Underwood is an eight-time Grammy winner whose voice has become a hallmark of modern music. She is scheduled to singAmerica the Beautiful during the swearing-in ceremony.
“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood said, according to theAssociated Press. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
The Village People are scheduled to perform twice this weekend — first at a Sunday rally and the next day at an inaugural ball, the AP said. The groupacknowledged in a statement that its members did not support Trump during November.
“We are announcing today that VILLAGE PEOPLE have accepted an invitation from President-Elect Trump’s campaign to participate in inaugural activities, including at least one event with President-Elect Trump,” the group said on Facebook. “We know this won’t make some of you happy to hear; however, we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics.

“Our song Y.M.C.A. is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost,” the group added. “Therefore, we believe it’s now time to bring the country together with music, which is why VILLAGE PEOPLE will be performing at various events as part of the 2025 Inauguration of Donald J. Trump.”
Greenwood and Macchio performed at Trump events during the election. Macchio will sing the National Anthem during the inauguration ceremony, while Greenwood will perform his signature song,God Bless the U.S.A.
The U.S. Constitution sets the date and time for a president’s new term: Jan. 20 at noon.
