Causeway, starring Jennifer Lawrence, has been bought by Apple.

The movie is directed by Lila Neugebauer and also stars Brian Tyree Henry.

 

Apple TV+ is getting a new feature with an A-list star. Causeway, an A24 drama with Jennifer Lawrence and Brian Tyree Henry, has been bought by the streaming service.

 

Theater director Lila Neugebauer, who was in charge of episodes like “The Maid” and “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” makes the jump to feature films with “Causeway.” The movie is about a soldier (Lawrence) who returns home to New Orleans and struggles to adjust to her new life. The project was filmed in New Orleans, and Ottessa Moshfegh, Luke Goebel, and Elizabeth Sanders wrote the script. Excellent Cadaver is a band that Lawrence and Justine Ciarrocchi work on together. Neugebauer is in charge of making movies.

 

The movie used to be called “Red, White, and Water,” and at one point, disgraced producer Scott Rudin was one of the people who supported it. Rudin left the project more than a year ago, after the Hollywood Reporter looked into the producer’s alleged wrongdoings.

 

Apple says that Causeway will come out in theatres and on Apple TV+ later this year, but they didn’t say much about how long the project might run in theatres. Streaming movies that go to theatres usually only play in a small number of theatres on the same day they come out on streaming. However, the streaming service has plans to give its upcoming Brad Pitt racing drama a more traditional wide release. IAC Films, IPR.VC, Excellent Cadaver, and A24 are all behind the making of Causeway.

 

With the help of CODA, Apple became the first streaming service to win an Oscar for best picture this year. Its upcoming high-profile projects include Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Killers of the Flower Moon and Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell, and Octavia Spencer’s Spirited, a musical retelling of A Christmas Carol with Will Ferrell and Ferrell in the lead roles.

 

Lawrence was last seen in Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up. She is set to work with him again on Bad Blood, an Apple movie in which she plays Elizabeth Holmes, the disgraced founder of Theranos.

 

LBI Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson represent Lawrence. Neugebauer has representation from both UTA and Johnson Shapiro.
