Captain America actor Chris Evans earned a new superpower — earning People magazine’s 2022 title of “Sexiest Man Alive.”
The publication announced Monday night that Evans landed its coveted distinction and corresponding cover.
The 41-year-old star takes the crown from last year’s champ and fellow Avenger, Paul Rudd. Evans was rumored to have won the title last year before Rudd was officially announced — surprising many fans.
“The Gray Man” star told People he expects his friends to tease him about the designation, while his mom revels in her son’s new-found title.
“Really this will just be a point of bullying,” Evans joked in an interview with People. “It’s ripe for harassment.”
“My mom will be so happy,” he said. “She’s proud of everything I do but this is something she can really brag about.”
His mom, Lisa, told People she wasn’t the least bit surprised her handsome son was deemed the sexiest living man.
Evans said his middle-school self would be “pumped” if he learned his fate.
“This would probably be the road to the cool table which I was not at,” he said.
However, Evans felt more bashful than cocky about his new accolade.
“This whole thing is tough to be interviewed about,” he told People with a laugh. “It feels like a weird form of humble bragging.”
Evans rose to fame with his role as superhero Johnny Storm in two “Fantastic Four” movies released in 2005 and 2007.
His career really took off, however, when he played the namesake star of “Captain America: The First Avenger” in 2011. He reprised the role in 10 Marvel films ending in 2019 with “Avengers: Endgame.”
More recently, he voiced Buzz Lightyear in Pixar’s “Lightyear” movie and played the villain opposite Ryan Reynolds in Netflix’s “The Gray Man.”
The Massachusetts native follows in the footsteps of prior superhero film stars like Rudd, Reynolds and Chris Hemsworth. Other notable past sexy men include Michael B. Jordan, John Legend, Dwayne Johnson, Idris Elba, Adam Levine, Richard Gere, Channing Tatum and David Beckham.
Evans said he’ll cherish the “Sexiest Man” title for a lifetime.
“It’s something that as I become old and saggy I can look back on and say ‘I remember then…’” Evans said. “I’m lucky to be in the discussion in any capacity.”
