Galway songwriter Cian Finn has shared his new album ‘What’s Next’ in full.
A true musician’s musician, Cian Finn achieved his breakout moment in 2015, with the excellent ‘This Applies’ illustrating his wide-open creativity. Since then, he’s become a by-word in independence, working with his own label – Emerald Isle Records – in the process.
Labouring over each immaculate detail, new album ‘What’s Next’ pushes his art to the next level. Dubbed “a retrospective record” by its maker, the songs blend his inimitable voice with a vast array of influences.
Digging into his bedrock, the material moves from electronic aspects to traditional Irish music, via hip-hop, dub, reggae, and beyond. Held together by Cian’s sense of purpose, and his undaunted creativity, what emerges is a songwriter who wishes to stretch his craft.
Deeply ambitious, ‘What’s Next’ boasts 12 tracks, and some incredible hand-picked guests. Cian Finn comments…
There is a lot covered throughout the project theme wise, and that is reflected sonically also, crossing sounds of hip-hop, dub, electronica, reggae, traditional Irish music and spoken word. It’s also of course a project stamped in time by current events, which is very important to me. A snapshot of the present, for the future.
Tune in now.
