Code for “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered” contains references to the PlayStation PC launcher.

Sony might be copying other book publishers.

Sony may soon ask you to download a launcher before you can play their games on PC, similar to Blizzard, Rockstar, and Ubisoft. When searching through the Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered Windows edition, VGC found code that pointed to a PlayStation PC launcher. The finding comes after it was recently made known that Sony probably has plans to integrate PlayStation Network with its PC game releases.

It’s unclear if Sony intends to make its titles exclusive to the launcher if the project proceeds forward. All of Sony’s PC games are currently available for purchase on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Different publishers use various tactics. For instance, you can only download Blizzard games using the Battle.Net app. You can purchase and download games from other developers like EA and Rockstar via Steam and the Epic Games Store, but you also need to install their software for verification. Even if Sony chose the latter course, their launcher would almost certainly have a marketplace. That way, the business wouldn’t have to give Valve and Epic a portion of their PC sales.
