The area to watch is here. the area for standing ovations. clap counter. The rankings for this year have undergone a significant change, and this is where we evaluate and analyse the length and intensity of the standing ovations received at the various film festivals so far this year.
Colin Farrell’s The Banshees Of Inisherin, which received a 13-minute “rapturous” standing ovation at the Venice International Film Festival, overtook Baz Lurhmann’s Elvis, which had previously held this year’s lead after receiving a 12-minute clap onslaught at Cannes.
According to Variety’s thorough analysis of the standing ovation, Farrell “broke precedent” by running among the crowd, posing for pictures, and signing signatures, which resulted in more cheers. The audience apparently showed such ardent support for The Banshees Of Inisherin that the standing ovation began to spill over into the premiere of Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling, requiring ushers to shoo people out of the auditorium.
Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees Of Inisherin, a story about the vicissitudes of male friendship, starring Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as two lifelong friends who reside on the fictitious island of Inisherin in 1923. The small community is left reeling from the effects when one of them abruptly terminates the friendship.
“I’m glad to see male friendship as something valuable at the moment when the readjustment of everyone’s relationships with everybody is under reconsideration,” Gleeson said in Venice. I think it’s important and profound to value male friendship over a bromance right now.
The Banshees Of Inisherin has a commanding advantage over other Venice offerings because to its standing ovation. T.R. by Todd Field received a 6-minute standing ovation (and rave reviews), and Bones And All by Luca Guadingino garnered an enormous 8.5 minutes. Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling is near the bottom, where the audience applauded for four minutes despite the conflict between the director and star Florence Pugh. Notably, Brendan Fraser’s tearful reaction to Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale receiving a 6-minute standing ovation made news.
