One of the greatest events of the next year might or might not be headlined by Taylor Swift.
Swift will appear in the Super Bowl halftime performance, Variety’s Jem Aswad said on Friday, citing “three sources close to the issue.”
Swift won’t perform in Glendale, Arizona, according to a contradictory story from TMZ Sports that cited “sources with firsthand knowledge.” TMZ Sports’ report was verified by individuals.
Swift reportedly received a request to participate at the halftime performance but eventually declined. Following a well-publicized argument with Scooter Braun over her master recordings, the story claims that Swift is delaying her appearance at the Super Bowl until she has finished re-recording her first six albums. She has so far made available the Taylor’s Versions of Red and Fearless.
The NFL made the announcement that it had partnered with Apple Music for the halftime show at midnight on Friday. In May, the league terminated its contract with Pepsi.
Due of the announcement’s timing, Swift’s followers assumed that she would perform at the halftime show. Like many other musicians, Swift is well known for releasing albums around midnight. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she released two surprise CDs at midnight. Her newest album, Midnights, will be published on October 21.
Swift has also never participated in the Super Bowl halftime performance. Swift was reportedly unable to take part in the Pepsi-sponsored event due to her Coca-Cola contract, according to Aswad.
The situation appears to be extremely ambiguous. Swift will join other prominent female performers such as Diana Ross, Shania Twain, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, and more if she does headline the event.
The Arizona Cardinals’ State Farm Stadium will host the Super Bowl LVII on February 12.
