Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Davido has underscored the importance of strong leadership as the key to unlocking Nigeria’s vast potential.
In a recent interview with Elevate Africathe global music icon shared his thoughts on leadership, development, and the transformative power of music in reshaping perceptions of Africa.
During the interview, Davido highlighted how entertainment, particularly music, has played a pivotal role in changing global narratives about Africa.
He described music as a medium of enlightenment and a powerful tool for uniting people and fostering understanding.
“Entertainment has been instrumental in reshaping global perceptions of Africa,” Davido said.
“Through music, we’ve been able to tell our stories, showcase our culture, and demonstrate the incredible talent coming out of the continent.”
Reflecting on his home country, Davido praised the resilience and adaptability of Nigerians, calling them “survivors” and “strong-willed people.” However, he pointed to one critical area holding the nation back: its leadership.
“The thing about Nigerians is that we adapt. I always tell people that if you can survive in Nigeria, you can survive anywhere,” he explained. “But I feel like the only thing missing are the right people to lead us.”
Davido also emphasized the global presence and influence of Nigerians as evidence of the country’s untapped potential.
“If you go anywhere in the world, everyone has Nigerian friends,” he noted. “Whether you’re in China or anywhere else, you’ll find Nigerian communities, restaurants, and a sense of home. This shows that Nigeria is a force.”
For Davido, the path to realizing Nigeria’s full potential lies in securing competent and visionary leaders. He expressed optimism about the nation’s future but stressed that leadership is the cornerstone of progress.
“Leadership is one of the main things,” he concluded. “If we get it right, there’s nothing that can stop us. We can’t move forward without the best leaders.”
