Destin Daniel Cretton will be in charge of the Marvel movie “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.”

Only a few days after its huge Hall H presentation at Comic-Con, Marvel is moving quickly to find a director for one of its biggest movies. Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has been chosen to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, the studio told Deadline.

The president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, said over the weekend that the movie was in the works. The studio is now holding meetings to look for a writer to join the project.

The movie will come out on May 2, 2025, and Avengers: Secret Wars will come out on November 7, 2025.\

We don’t know much about the sequel except that it will focus on Marvel’s new main villain, Kang (Jonathan Majors), who is expected to play a big role in this new set of movies leading up to the big Avengers movies.

Cretton has worked with Marvel before. He directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for the company last year. The movie made $432 million around the world, which led Marvel to sign an overall deal with Cretton. As part of that, he is working with Andrew Guest, who has written and produced comedies like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Community, on a live-action series about Wonder Man that he will executive produce and maybe even direct one or more episodes of. He is also making a follow-up to Shang-Chi.

Marvel has also confirmed that Blade will be directed by Bassam Tariq, Captain America: New World Order will be directed by Julius Onah, and Thunderbolts will be directed by Jake Schreier.

Cretton is represented by WME, Goodman Genow, and Pangea Media. Today, the news first came out in The Hollywood Reporter.
