‘Destiny 2’ Has Temporarily Activated A Killer Legendary Shard Farm

Destiny 2

Bungie

Destiny 2 has had a bit of trouble attempting to prevent blues from dropping after the soft power cap. It was supposed to be part of the hotfix last week that more or less broke the entire game for a full day and required a rollback, but even when the patch returned, the blues fix was missing.

Now, finally, blues are dead. But Bungie has modified their initial plans in a way that is kind of interesting. Here’s what Destiny 2 posted yesterday:

So, the difference here is that for the next month until Lightfall, rather than blues turning into glimmer when dropping, blues will instead be purples. My first thought when I heard this was “oh no, this is going to be just as much clutter,” given that 98% of world drop purples are just as useless as blues.

However, this is just temporary, so that will not be long term problem. Instead, this is going to function as a great legendary shard farm for the next month, as purples give shards and blues did not. I believe the ratio before this was something like three blue drops for every purple drop, but now those three blues will instead be…purples, meaning a whole lot of shards should be coming in when you’re running essentially any activity.

You are still going to have to watch your postmaster, as that’s just as much extra loot as before heading there and filling up your inventory, but at least when you dismantle it all now, you’re getting something for your trouble. Since Destiny 2 has made a number of economy changes including legendary shards for gear focusing across a lot of vendors, shard stockpiles have dwindled among players. Bungie has recently reduced shard focusing cost, but a great farm like this is good news for anyone.

As for me, I play so much and focus so little I have never really had a problem with shards, and I am glad this is only temporary because I care more about engram clutter than shard farming at this point. But in general, I recognize that this is a fantastic farm for those short on shards for the next four weeks here, and you should absolutely take advantage of it while it’s live. I don’t think there’s a specific trick to farm purples, as they’re just going to drop naturally as you run any activity that can drop loot (ie. not Gambit or Crucible). So get out there and grab those shards while you can.
