James Mangold, who directed The Wolverine and Logan, had some opinions on the news that Hugh Jackman, a regular partner, would be reprising his legendary role for Deadpool 3.
Without mentioning the announcement specifically or writing a single word, Mangold posted a Logan gif on Twitter that showed the Wolverine clone X-24 impaling the original Logan on a tree stump’s horn-like root, which was a significant factor in the chain of injuries that ultimately led to the mutant’s death in the director’s movie.
Fans responded right once, saying things like, “You are not the final word on Wolverine,” “Logan was never canon to anything since they declared a mutant hadn’t been born in 20 years,” and, triumphantly, “everything is possible in the Multiverse!”
After some time, Mangold was compelled to reveal his true intentions without any guile.
“Oh my gosh!” Mangold composed. “Everyone relax. I kid you not! Everything is well with me. There will always be LOGAN. I am very excited to see what my great friends @VancityReynolds and @RealHughJackman come up with—multiverse or prequel, time warp or wormhole, canon or non-canon, or even without a reason!
