Following her divorce from musician Patrick Carney of the Black Keys, singer Michelle Branch was taken into custody on a misdemeanor assault allegation on Thursday at her home in Nashville.
She was detained for over eight hours before being freed on a $1,000 bail.
Officers from the Metro Nashville Police Department visited the couple’s house shortly after 2 a.m. in response to a report of a potential domestic disturbance, according to the arrest affidavit.
According to the affidavit, Branch, 39, admitted to having “marital troubles” with her husband and claimed to have hit Carney in the face a few times during an argument.
According to the report, an officer, Carney had no obvious wounds.
Carney said to police during a separate interview that his wife had smacked him.
Online records indicate that Branch was arrested at 4:30 a.m. on a misdemeanor domestic assault complaint and was released from custody just before noon.
When USA TODAY contacted Branch’s representatives for comment following her arrest, they did not immediately answer.
On the day the singer told USA TODAY she had ended her relationship with Carney, police detained Branch.
In April 2019, the rock drummer and singer-songwriter of “Everywhere” got married. They have two kids together, one of whom is a baby.
“I’m beyond upset, but that doesn’t even begin to capture how I feel about myself and my family. The ground has been entirely taken out from under me, and I now need to decide how to go “Branch penned a statement that was provided to USA TODAY on Thursday evening. “With such young youngsters, I beg for discretion and consideration.”
According to court records, Branch is scheduled to appear in court on November 7 to settle a case.
