Early in 2023, Zilliqa will release a Web3 gaming console.

A prototype of the blockchain network’s gaming console has been unveiled, and its stated goal is to “mask the complexities of Web3 from the end-user.”

Blockchain at layer 1 With the introduction of a hardware console and gaming hub, Zilliqa is getting ready to enter the Web3 gaming market.

A console prototype with a modern look and a variety of interfaces, including HDMI, Ethernet, USB-C, and USB 3.0 connections, was presented today. Zilliqa promotes the console’s user-friendliness, with Web3 capabilities like a crypto wallet and mining incorporated to “mask the complexities of Web3 from the end-user,” according to a press release shared with Decrypt. Full specifications for the console are still unknown.

The goal of the research phase, when Zilliqa’s engineers spent six months building and testing the console, was to seamlessly incorporate Web3 elements—crypto wallets, mining software, and blockchain technology—into a recognisable gaming experience.

Valentin Cobelea, Head of Gaming Technology at Zilliqa, said to Decrypt that the company “took the strategy of masking the complexities of constructing the embedded Web3 wallet.” Cobelea cited NBA Top Shot from the NFT collection as a model to follow.

Zilliqa (ZIL) tokens can be acquired by players through completing “skill-to-earn” missions, tasks, and objectives within the game. In this instance, the tokens might be thought of as being comparable to coins or prizes in conventional games, but with additional features provided by blockchain technology.

Zilliqa also mentioned that “players will be able to mine ZIL tokens,” which they believe would “lead to increasing decentralisation of the Zilliqa blockchain by expanding the number of miners worldwide.”

Cobelea stated that the amount of money that players might potentially make through mining and professional gaming “depends on how competent the players are, and the amount they earn will be representative of that.”

Zilliqa claims that the console “can eventually pay for itself,” despite the fact that it has not yet provided pricing information.

Describe Zilliqa.
Zilliqa is a layer-1 smart contract blockchain that was created in 2017 and released on mainnet two years later. Since joining the Blockchain Gaming Alliance (BGA) in April of this year, it has actively pursued measures to increase its impact in the gaming industry. It has also formed relationships with the esports teams MAD Lions, RRQ, and more recently Alien Worlds and XBorg.

With the help of XBorg’s community, Zilliqa will create gaming tournaments and undertake marketing initiatives. In addition, XBorg members will have beta access to test Zilliqa’s gaming centre in October.

The first quarter of 2023 is when the gaming console is expected to be released after this testing phase, along with the release of two Zilliqa-native games, including the first-person shooter (FPS) game WEB3WAR.

A rise in Web3 gaming
Using blockchain technology and non-fungible tokens, Web3 gaming is based on the idea that players should have complete autonomy and ownership over their gained goods (NFTs).

The idea behind cryptographically unique NFTs, which stand in for in-game items like weapons, skins, and badges, is that players will be able to own their digital property and move it between virtual worlds or even sell it.

Early adopters of blockchain gaming technology, however, have come under fire from traditional gaming industry sceptics who have expressed worries about the financialization of gaming, the environmental impact of blockchain, and the impacts of “play-to-earn” gaming on consumers in emerging nations.

Zilliqa is not going to copy the “play-to-earn” business model of games like Axie Infinity, which—at least temporarily—allowed gamers in some Asian nations to make a livable wage, according to Cobelea, who spoke to Decrypt.

We prefer to be compared to the Counter-Strikes of the world, where the emphasis is on the gaming experience rather than the financial aspect, rather than the Axie approach “explained he. “You are awarded if you are having fun and playing the game.
