Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were shocked when Marvel Studios unveiled the official trailer for Secret Invasion during the Lucasfilm, Marvel, and 20th Century Fox display at Disney’s D23 Expo and showed showing firearms instead of dragon fire. Emilia Clarke, who is best known for playing the title character Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen in the popular HBO series Game of Thrones, expressed her excitement about joining the expansive MCU.
The Disney+ original mini-series Secret Invasion will premiere on the streaming giant sometime in the spring of 2023, and the Emmy-nominated actress shared the trailer on Instagram. The new show is based on S.H.I.E.LD. director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), who previously worked with Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) in Captain Marvel, returns to Earth to uncover a conspiracy being carried out by a band of renegade Skrulls. Details of Secret Invasion are still shrouded in secrecy, thus Clarke’s character’s specifics haven’t been revealed. The buzz over the enigmatic series continues since it adds Academy Award-winning actress Olivia Colman to the vast cinematic universe, as she says in her brief appearance in the trailer, “This is just the beginning.” In Secret Invasion, which also stars Carmen Ejogo, Christopher McDonald, Killian Scott, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders is reprising her role as Agent Maria Hill.
In addition to the trailer for Secret Invasions, Clarke made a comment about the abundance of talent in the cast.
Don Cheadle will reprise his role as Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes, a.k.a. War Machine, in one episode of the series, and Martin Freeman will play Everett K. Ross from Black Panther. Secret Invasion, written and directed by Kyle Bradstreet, is based on a significant plotline from the Marvel comic books. Together with Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, Bradstreet executive produced the eagerly awaited miniseries. With production design by Frank Walsh and cinematography by Remi Adefarasin, Secret Invasion is produced by Jason Schwartz and Sarah Finn.
In 2023, Secret Invasions will make its debut exclusively on Disney+. Below, you can view Emilia Clarke’s Instagram post, as well as the Secret Invasions photos and official trailer.
