Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat in Seasons 1 and 2 of HBO’s Euphoria, has announced that she will not return for Season 3.
Ferreira announced her apparent departure in an Instagram story today.
“After four years of embodying the most unique and enigmatic character, Kat, I must say a tearful farewell.” I hope many of you saw yourself in her, as I did, and that watching her develop into the character she is today brought you joy. I put all of my love and care into her, and I hope you could feel it. Katherine Hernandez, I adore you.”
HBO did not respond immediately to Deadline’s request for confirmation.
There had been rumours of on-set tension between Ferreira and show creator Sam Levinson during the second season, but Ferreira told Insider in a March interview that those reports were false.
Ferreira made her Season 1 debut as Kat, Maddie’s (Alexa Demie) and Cassie’s (Sydney Sweeney) best friend, in Season 1, which focused on her journey of self-love as a body-conscious teen who begins the school year hoping to change her reputation. Her character’s storyline in Season 2 included a lie about a terminal illness.
In February, the Emmy-winning series was renewed for a third season.
