Ex-sports minister Colin Moynihan to be new Amey chairman

The announcement follows the recent acquisition of Amey by One Equity Partners and Buckthorn Partners, where Moynihan is also Chairman.

Moynihan was Minister for Sport from 1987-1990 in Margaret Thatcher’s government and also served as Energy Minister and Environment Minister under John Major.

He has also acted as Chairman of the UK Renewable Energy Advisory Group and was the first President of the British Wind Energy Association.

Amey said: “Colin will support the board in their focus on Amey supporting the UK’s energy transition efforts as well as the company’s continued development of its ESG programme in support of social value.”

He replaces former Balfour Beatty chief executive Tyler who has served as Chairman since 2018.

Moynihan, said: “It is a crucial time to be joining Amey as the company looks to bring its expertise in transport and buildings infrastructure to bear on the UK’s net zero ambitions.

“I am looking forward to working with the leadership team and offering my support as they realise the future vision for the business.”

Andy Milner, Amey CEO, said: “We are at an important turning point for the business, and Colin’s wealth of experience in both Government and business across numerous sectors will help us realise Amey’s potential.

“I would also like to thank Ian for his contribution as Chairman since 2018, particularly through the sale and transition.”
