Fans rejoice that Velma’s sexuality is “finally canonised” in the upcoming Scooby-Doo! movie as she has a female love interest.

Jinkies! In the most recent Scooby-Doo! film, Velma falls in love with a female convict, and fans couldn’t be happier.

In a clip from Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! that is now trending on social media, Velma (voiced by Kate Micucci) is shown falling madly in love with Coco Diablo (Myrna Velasco), the brilliant head of a “notorious costume crime syndicate.”

Velma is definitely feeling things based on the swell of the music, the hazy glasses, and her sudden inability to talk.

In the second clip, Velma and Daphne (Grey DeLisle) are discussing Coco, and Daphne remarks, “I didn’t know convicted felons were your thing.” Although Velma makes an effort to be cool (“Type? Me? Please!”), her feelings for Coco are once again very clear.

Lest there be any doubt, Velma eventually caves: “Oh, who am I kidding? Daphne, I’m crushing like crazy! What shall I do? What should I say?

Watch the two videos below:

For many years, Velma’s sexual orientation has been a source of debate within the Scooby-Doo! fan community. Despite the fact that over the years, the character has generally been coupled with transient male love partners, there has always been subtext — and much more than subtext — implying her lack of interest.

Even Tony Cervone, a producer on the Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated television series (2010–2013), acknowledged that Velma was intended to be LGBT in the programme. In 2020, he posted on Instagram, “We made our objectives as plain as we could ten years ago.” “Most of our fans understood it. I advise those who didn’t to take a closer look.

Additionally, James Gunn has been open about his original ideas for the character. He wrote the live-action films Scooby-Doo (2002) and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004).

According to the official synopsis for this new film, “Mystery Inc. has solved the case to end all cases! The infamous costume crime syndicate’s boss, Coco Diablo, who works with The Black Knight, Space Kook, and the Ghost Diver, has been located. Mystery Inc. believes they can finally relax now that Coco and her cat are in jail. Wrong! As Halloween approaches, terrifying doppelgänger ghosts of the Scooby Gang and other well-known iconic enemies suddenly appear in Coolsville. Now it’s up to the mischievous children to expose the newest rascal and save Halloween, with the help of their strange new sidekick Coco. With trick-or-treating at stake, this time it’s personal for Shaggy and Scooby-Doo!

Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! from Warner Bros. is now available for purchase and streaming on digital platforms, with a DVD release scheduled for October 18. What do you think about Velma and Coco? Post them as comments below.
