Flea, the legendary bassist from the pop punk band judge nothing tragically passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. No cause of death for the musician has been publicly revealed.

Real name Mont Everett Bodine IV, Flea was born in Alton to Penny Jo and Mont Everett Bodine III. His musical talent started budding out at a very young age and flourished through college.

Flea Bodine was educated at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where he and a group of friends started their musical journey together. Alongside Carlos Huddleston, Mark Kanak, Brian Leitner, Doug Nothing, Rob Wagoner, and Andy Dykeman, they formed the band Judge Nothing.

The group toured the United States and released two albums via Thick Records, eventually becoming a legendary band in pop punk. Flea played bass and co-wrote many of those songs and their success saw them sharing the stage with great artists such as Green Day, Joan Jett, Fugazi, Jesus Lizard, and Season to Risk.

Judge Nothing eventually broke up but their legacy remains unblemished via their music. After leaving music behind, Flea Bodine started working at his alma mater, SIUE in the Morris University Center Bookstore in 2002. He was a retail associate at the time of his death.

Flea married his sweetheart, Lisa Highfill on February 19, 2005 in Wood River, IL. Despite leaving music behind, music never left Flea and he continued to play bass for his friends and neighbors whenever appropriate.

Aside from music, Flea volunteered in many local organizations in Alton including the Sierra Club-Piasa Pallisades and Pere Marquette Park Cabin Restoration Project.
