The Fabelmans

Following a rousing Toronto Film Festival premiere, Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans” trailer debuts.

In the first trailer for “The Fabelmans,” Steven Spielberg takes viewers on a personal tour of his youth.

The semi-autobiographical movie chronicles a young man’s formative years as he learns a shocking family secret that drives him to turn to movies to help him realise the truth about people and himself. Spielberg and Tony Kushner, the author of “Lincoln,” “Munich,” and “West Side Story,” collaborated on the script. Spielberg based the movie on his own formative years in Arizona.

A standing ovation was given to the Oscar-winning director during his first visit at the Canadian festival on Saturday as “The Fabelmans” had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Gabriel LaBelle, Jeannie Berlin, Julia Butters, Robin Bartlett, Keeley Karsten, and Judd Hirsch are among the cast members of “The Fabelmans.”

“The Fabelmans” received high praise from Variety reviewer Peter Debruge, who said that “the king of escapist entertainment gets personal in this 150-minute self-portrait, delivering a heartfelt ode to the tangled relationship with his parents that has shaped so much of his work.”

The film that follows Spielberg’s direction of “West Side Story” in 2021 is “The Fabelmans.” Despite the musical adaptation’s lacklustre box office performance, it received favourable reviews and received seven Oscar nominations, including best picture and director. Ariana DeBose created history at the Oscars when she became the first openly LGBT woman of colour to take home the prize for best actress in a supporting role.

Spielberg’s most recent movie will undoubtedly be a contender come awards season. The current release date for “The Fabelmans” is Nov. 11.
