President Biden had already committed to attending the official state service before the official plans for Queen Elizabeth’s funeral were made public. However, because to space restrictions for the historic event, the President and the First Lady will allegedly be the only Americans present at the ceremony when he is in London on Monday.
But the former presidents aren’t being completely ignored just because they’re no longer in the White House. Donald Trump, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Jimmy Carter have all been invited to “a Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” which will be held at the Washington National Cathedral in association with the British Embassy. The Royal Air Force’s Queen’s Colour Squadron will provide an honour guard for the occasion, which will take place on Wednesday, September 21, according to Sky News.
The cathedral has a long and distinguished history, having hosted memorial ceremonies for people like Winston Churchill, the Queen’s cherished first Prime Minister, as well as funerals for Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, and George H.W. Bush. Following the announcement of Queen Elizabeth’s passing last week, the cathedral’s bell rang 96 times in tribute to Her Majesty’s 96 years of life.
The attendance of any or all of the former presidents at the next service has not yet been confirmed, but we will update this item as soon as we learn more.
