‘Frasier’ Sequel Is Definitely Going to Happen at Paramount+

The long-in-development update starring Kelsey Grammer has received a series order from the streaming service.

Scrambled eggs and toss salad: Frasier is making a comeback on television.

The long-in-development resurrection of the series, starring Kelsey Grammer in the lead once more, has received a series order from Paramount+. About 19 months after the streamer said it was working on a spinoff of the 1993–2004 NBC sitcom, the show got picked up for a second season.

Prior to that, in 2018, Grammer and CBS Studios started soliciting suggestions for a revival. In the upcoming series, radio presenter and psychiatrist Frasier Crane (Grammer) will be starting a new chapter in a different city. The remaining cast members, Niles portrayed by David Hyde Pierce, Daphne by Jane Leeves, and Roz by Peri Gilpin, aren’t likely to be regulars but they could make guest appearances (Frasier and Martin Crane, played by John Mahoney, who passed away in 2018), New characters who make up Frasier’s life in his new hometown will be included in the cast.

The multicamera comedy is written by Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother, Acapulco) and Joe Cristalli (Life in Pieces, Maggie on Hulu). For a number of years, the duo ran a Twitter account with quotes and scenes from a (at the time hypothetical) Frasier update. Along with Grammer, Tom Russo, and Jordan McMahon, they’ll executive produce. Together with Grammer’s Grammnet NH label, CBS Studios produces.

Frasier, a Cheers spinoff, aired on NBC from 1993 until 2004 for 11 seasons. 37 Emmys were awarded to the sitcom produced by David Angell, Peter Casey, and David Lee, including five consecutive wins for best comedy series from 1994 to 1998. For playing Frasier and Niles Crane, respectively, Grammer and Pierce received four Emmy awards apiece.

The series order was first reported by Deadline.
