Friends and Seinfeld actor Richard Roat has died at the age of 89.

A prolific character actor has died in Hollywood.

 

Richard Roat, who appeared on Friends and Seinfeld, has passed away. He was 89.

 

According to the actor’s obituary, which appeared in The Los Angeles Times on August 28, he died “suddenly” on August 5 in Orange County, Calif. There were no other details released about his death.

 

E! News reached out to Roat’s representative for comment but did not receive a response.

 

Roat had appeared in over 135 roles on television, film, and Broadway during his 50-year career. He appeared on The Golden Girls twice, first as a murder mystery host and later as the boyfriend of Rose Nylund (played by Betty White), who was discovered dead in her bed.

 

Roat also appeared in Hill Street Blues, Matlock, The Nanny, Cold Case, Dynasty, Dallas, Charlie’s Angels, Heart and Souls, and many other shows. He also appeared on Broadway in Any Wednesday, Moon Over Buffalo, Julius Caesar, and Boys in the Band.

 

Aside from his successful acting career, Roat has also worked as an entertainment tax preparer for over 50 years.

 

According to his obituary, the late actor enjoyed music, the theatre, movies, literature, and violin playing. Roat was a huge sports fan who cheered on the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Angels.

 

Roat is survived by his wife, Kathy Roat, who is described as his “true soulmate” in the obituary. The couple had just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary, which she described as “An Affair to Remember.”
