Fans of Disney’s mid-90s production received a pleasant surprise this week. The company announced that it was remastering Gargoyles during its most recent gaming showcase. Alongside Aladdin and The Lion King, the 1995 Sega Genesis release is one of the centrepieces of Disney’s gaming repertoire.
If you aren’t familiar with the game, it is based on the corresponding animated series. The first seasons of Gargoyles broadcast from 1994 to 1997. Despite its modest success at the time, it has since gained cult status because of its gripping narrative and outstanding voice cast, which included Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
The game is being remastered for contemporary consoles and PC by Empty Clip Studios, well known for its work on Dead Island Retro Revenge. The 1995 original is known for being one of the best-looking games in the Genesis library. It also included a soundtrack by Michael Giacchino, who later went on to work on The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Lost and Rogue One — among a host of other high-profile films and TV shows. The remaster does not have a release date yet.
