There are less than 48 hours until Apple’s “Far out” event, at which the company is expected to unveil the iPhone 14, Apple Watch Series 8, AirPods Pro 2, and a brand new Apple Watch Pro aimed at extreme sports enthusiasts. According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple has created exclusive bands and faces for the new Apple Watch Pro.
Gurman recently tweeted that a “new set of bands for the Apple Watch Pro will be pretty wide ranging and play into the extreme sports theme.” In other words, customers who purchase the Apple Watch Pro will have access to a new line of watch bands designed specifically for it.
It’s unclear what these watch bands will look like, but Apple could take a similar approach to what the company already does with the Nike-created watch bands. Apple also sells Apple Watch bands designed specifically for Hermès models. It’s worth noting that Gurman previously stated that while old watch bands will work with the Apple Watch Pro, they will not fit perfectly.
Furthermore, the journalist believes that new watch faces designed exclusively for the Pro model will display dense fitness information to users. If this is true, it would not be the first time Apple has created new watch faces for a specific model of Apple Watch.
Only the cellular versions of the Apple Watch, for example, have a watch face called “Explorer,” not to mention the Nike and Hermès faces.
Design of the Apple Watch Pro
A leaked CAD render of the Apple Watch Pro revealed the potential design earlier today. The new Apple Watch has a larger 47mm case and a flat screen with no curved edges, unlike previous models. However, contrary to previous rumours, the Apple Watch Pro case is not flat. A third new side button was also revealed in the rendering.
According to Gurman, this new button is “programmable,” which means that the user can assign it different actions, such as opening a specific app, beginning a workout, or performing any other action within an app. The Digital Crown also appears to be different from the one found on current Apple Watch models, though it is unclear whether this will enable any new software features.
The Apple Watch Pro will most likely be made of titanium. This, combined with the flat screen, should make the device less prone to mishaps.
Series 8 and SE 2 Apple Watches
Apple has been working on two new Apple Watch models in addition to the Apple Watch Pro. The Apple Watch Series 8, which is expected to replace the Apple Watch Series 7, will retain the same design and size as the previous generation, as well as similar internal hardware. The main difference between this year’s model and previous ones will be the addition of a new body temperature sensor.
Apple is expected to keep the same design and sensors as the current model for the second generation Apple Watch SE, or Apple Watch SE 2, but with a faster processor.
Surprisingly, a last-minute rumour suggests that Apple will unveil a new Apple Watch model aimed at children and teenagers that is “cheaper than the Apple Watch SE.” Perhaps the company intends to keep the first-generation Apple Watch SE as a more affordable option.
Apple’s special event will take place on Wednesday, September 7, and full coverage of all announcements will be available here on 9to5Mac.
