Holiday lights build seasonal spirit across jobsites

At year’s end, construction sites across the country often don lights and other festive displays. To capture some of this creativity, Construction Dive asked readers to submit photos of their jobsites and offices decorated for the holidays.

We’ve chosen some of the best and brightest submissions and rounded them up below. Read on to see the photos and learn a little more about the projects.

Superior Construction: Portage, Indiana, corporate office

Permission granted by Thomas Labus – Superior Construction

This display, created for the public at Superior Construction’s Portage, Indiana, office, takes the shape of a Christmas tree. The display took a team of 14 employees to assemble, according to the company. There are 3,200 lights in the tree, plus 150 in the star. The crane is a 1969 American 5299.

The tree features the company’s logo, and comes in a red/white and green/red color combination, depending on the display at the time.

Walsh/Fluor joint venture: Chicago Transit Authority’s Red and Purple Modernization Phase One project

Transit projects are dominating the news cycle, so why not use one to bring a little holiday cheer?

That’s what a joint venture between Chicago-based Walsh Group and Irving, Texas-based Fluor did as they performed design-build work on the Chicago Transit Authority’s Red and Purple Modernization Phase One project.

The team’s custom-made launching gantry is decked for the holidays as it installs precast concrete segments for a new track structure on the project. The gantry has been dubbed “The Windy City Gantry” by second graders at Chicago’s Goudy School, which is next to the CTA Red and Purple Line tracks.

Rock Solid Stabilization & Reclamation: Headquarters display, Genoa City, Wisconsin

Sometimes, the best way to educate people is to get in the holiday spirit and put up a quarter-mile of bright lights.

That’s the goal of the light display at Rock Solid Stabilization & Reclamation’s headquarters in Genoa City, Wisconsin, which depicts Santa Claus being towed by an industrial vehicle, trucks being pulled, and more.

Rock Solid puts up a custom .25-mile-long display of their stabilization process every year. It shows their process, equipment, core values and Christmas spirit, according to the company.

PCL: Office light competition, Denver

It’s not just the jobsite that’s full of Christmas spirit — some offices are also getting in on the action.

At its U.S. headquarters in Denver, PCL Construction has its annual holiday lights contest in the office. Departments planned and executed displays throughout the hallways of the office, and one employee went so far as to hang close to 1,800 lights in his office.

That employee won the prize for “best overall seasonal display,” the company said.
