How Much of a Box Office Success Does Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Require?

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is expected to be another box office success for Marvel, and here is how much it needs to make.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is expected to be another box office success for Marvel Studios, and here’s how much it needs to make to be a success.
The original Black Panther surpassed all financial expectations, grossing $1.3 billion worldwide.
It is the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s highest-grossing solo film, and all eyes are on Black Panther 2 to see if Ryan Coogler’s sequel can surpass it.
The box office potential of Phase 4 has taken a small hit in a post-COVID landscape, but Spider-Man: No Way Home’s record-breaking performance shows that Marvel still has a lot of room to grow.

When it comes to how much Black Panther: Wakanda Forever needs to earn in order to be a box office success, the rule of thumb is that a film must earn between two and three times its budget in order for the studio to be profitable.
The budget for Black Panther 2 has not been officially disclosed by Disney or Marvel, but it is safe to assume that it will cost at least $200 million to produce.
That means Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s box office needs to be in the $400-600 million range to be a success.
Even if the sequel’s budget is closer to $250 million, the threshold for the sequel to cross is only $500-$750 million.

Black Panther: Wakanda Will Almost Certainly Be A Box Office Success.

The film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is expected to be a box office success. Tracking for the film’s domestic opening weekend predicts that it will earn at least $175 million in its first three days. The Black Panther 2 box office opening weekend could even outperform the original’s $202 million opening weekend, according to projections. This will give the film a quick start to becoming profitable and potentially recouping its budget with domestic box office alone in a short period of time. When the international box office is taken into account, Black Panther 2’s chances of success skyrocket.

To demonstrate that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is likely to be a box office success, MCU Phase 4 indicates that it should easily break even. Black Widow is the only Phase 4 film that did not gross at least $400 million worldwide, and its box office was hampered by the simultaneous release of Disney+. The box office for Black Panther 2 is expected to be similar to that of Thor: Love and Thunder ($760M) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($955M), which will easily make the final MCU Phase 4 film a success for Marvel Studios and Disney.

Will Black Panther 2 outperform the first film in terms of box office?

The biggest unknown about Black Panther 2’s box office is whether it will outperform the original film. The 2018 film grossed $1.3 billion worldwide, with $700 million of that coming from domestic sales, making it one of the highest-grossing films of all time. It is not expected that Black Panther 2 will outperform the original in terms of domestic box office, but that could change if Ryan Coogler’s sequel is as powerful and action-packed as it appears. The first Black Panther made over $100 million in China, but it has not been confirmed that the sequel will be released there. This reduces Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s chances of outperforming the first film’s box office. However, no one expected the original film to perform as well as it did. Because Namor’s involvement may appeal to another underrepresented demographic of audiences, the sequel may outperform Black Panther.
