If you own an iPhone 5S or 6, it’s time to install a rare iOS update.

It includes an important security update.

Apple released a new version of iOS 12 on Wednesday, almost a year after the last update, to patch a security hole that was recently fixed in newer versions of the OS. If you’re still using an iPhone 5S, 6 or 6 Plus, it’s worth taking the time to update — Apple doesn’t release security updates for its older software very often, so you know it’s a fairly serious issue when it does.

If you open a malicious website in Safari or another browser, the vulnerability fixed by iOS 12.5.6 could allow it to run unchecked code on your phone. Furthermore, Apple claims that someone somewhere in the world may have attempted to use this exploit. While this isn’t cause for alarm — it’s fairly common for the company — it does indicate that you should probably be cautious until you update your phone.

Go to Settings > General > Software Update to download and install the update. If your phone warns you that you don’t have enough storage to install the update, you can follow our guide on how to free up storage — some screens may look slightly different, but the basics will remain the same.

The update is also available for the original iPad Air, the iPad Mini 2 and 3, and the sixth-generation iPod Touch. If you have any of those lying around, you should probably take some time today to update them.
