Ghanaian musician-turned-politician Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus, has shared his plans as he prepares to serve as the newly elected Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central. In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, A Plus made it clear that his focus is on serving the people who voted for him, not the creative industry.
“I want to make it clear that I’m not going to Parliament to fight for the entertainment industry,” he stated. “My sole responsibility is to work diligently and deliver results for the people of Gomoa Central, who believed in me and voted massively to put me in this position.”
A Plus pointed out that his electoral victory was rooted in the trust of the people of Gomoa Central, not the backing of the creative industry. He highlighted that no major creative bodies, such as the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) or the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG), supported him during his campaign.
“When I was contesting, there wasn’t any collective support from MUSIGA, FIPAG, or any other creative group,” he explained. “It was just a handful of friends in the industry who stood by me. That’s why I’m focused on the people of Gomoa Central, who put their confidence in me, not the creative industry.”
“Players in the creative industry feel too important, even though there are serious challenges they need to address,” he added.
Despite his criticism, A Plus praised Shatta Wale for speaking up about the problems in the industry. “Shatta Wale has been making a lot of sense. They should listen to him because his ideas could help them,” he said.
