In September, the new Ford Mustang will be shown for the first time.

When the S650 Mustang comes out in early 2023, it will be the seventh generation of the iconic pony car.

We can expect to see the all-new Ford Mustang for the first time — where else? — in Detroit. In particular, in September 2022, at the North American International Detroit Auto Show.

Automotive News says that Ford will show off the brand-new Mustang at the resurrected Detroit auto show. Automotive News says that unnamed sources familiar with Ford’s plans say that production of the seventh-generation Mustang will start in early 2023. It will have four-cylinder EcoBoost and V8 engines that are mostly the same as the ones in the current Mustang, according to the sources.

When Jalopnik called Ford, a spokesperson said, “We’ve said before that the all-new seventh-generation Mustang is coming, and we can’t wait to give you more information soon.”

The last Detroit auto show was in January 2019, so the next one will be in 2022. The 2020 show had been moved to the summer, but it was canceled when the early COVID lockdowns happened. The same thing happened with a plan for 2021.

Sales of the current Mustang have dropped a little bit. Automotive News says that the company sold just over 52,000 Mustangs in 2021. So far this year, sales are 18% lower than they were last year. The Mustang is pretty much the only Ford car that isn’t a pickup truck or an SUV. It’s also an important part of Ford’s new branding strategy, with “Mustang” and “Bronco” each being a sub-brand with multiple products (i.e., Mustang and Mustang Mach-E, or Bronco and Bronco Sport).

What do you think the new Mustang will be like? Will Ford stick with tradition and make another car with a retro look and lots of nods to how the first 1964 1/2 legend looked? Or is this the time when Ford decides to break with the past and give us a brand-new pony car? Tell us what you think in the comments.
