Following the shocking true-life storey of a scammer named Anna Delvey who duped New York City’s socialites into paying for her opulent lifestyle, Netflix has released Inventing Anna.
The idea for the Netflix series, Anna Sorokin, conned her way into New York’s elite circles by posing as a rich German heiress.
How Much Did Anna Delvey Get Paid To Create Anna?
But where is Anna Delvey now, and is she still in jail?
Was Anna Delvey imprisoned?
Anna Sorokin was sentenced to four to twelve years in jail by a court in May 2019.
Anna was found guilty of stealing more than $200,000 from hotels, restaurants, a private jet operator, and banks.
What happened to Anna Delvey?
Anna was freed on parole in February 2021, after completing nearly four years of her sentence, which had been reduced owing to good behaviour.
She apologised and showed regret for her wrongdoings in an interview in October 2020.
“I just want to express that I’m terribly humiliated and I’m really sorry for what I did,” Anna stated during her parole hearing at the time.
“I absolutely see that a lot of people suffered because I felt I wasn’t doing anything wrong,” she continued.
However, Anna is back in detention under US Immigration and Customs Enforcement barely a year later (ICE).
She was born in Russia and raised in Germany, and prior to her detention, she had reportedly overstayed a 2017 US visa.
Her asylum application is still waiting.
