The JBL Pulse 5 portable speaker has been launched in the US. Arriving in Europe last year, the gadget can produce 360° lighting, with dynamic effects to match the music playing. Alternatively, you can select a color or lighting effect using the JBL Portable app. The sound system comprises a 30 W 64 mm woofer and a 10 W 16 mm tweeter, covering a frequency range from 58 Hz to 20 kHz.
A 27 Wh lithium-ion battery allows up to 12 hours of playback, and you can fully recharge the JBL gadget in under four hours. You can use Bluetooth 5.3 to pair two smartphones or tablets simultaneously to the Pulse 5 for dual controls. Plus, a PartyBoost system enables you to link two units to create a stereo sound experience, or more for a louder sound. The gadget is rated as IP67 dustproof and waterproof, making it suitable for outdoor use.
The device measures 4.2 x 8.5 x 5.2-in (~ 107 x 216 x 132 mm), weighs 1.5 kg (~3.2 lbs) and has a built-in strap to make it easier to transport. The speaker comes with a 47.2-in (~1,200 mm) USB-C charging cable. You can buy the JBL Pulse 5 portable speaker from the JBL store for US$249.95. You can also pre-order the gadget via Amazon for the same price; the product page states that the speaker will be released on February 9.
