Kelsea Ballerini has filed for divorce from Morgan Evans.

According to court records, country singer Kelsea Ballerini filed for divorce from singer-songwriter husband Morgan Evans last week.

In an Instagram statement posted Monday, the “Miss Me More” pop-country artist described the decision as “deeply difficult.”

“[It’s] the end result of a journey of love, growth, and effort,” the 28-year-old Ballerini wrote in a social media post.

Ballerini filed for divorce last Friday, according to Davidson County court records. As of early Monday, no full court complaint was available.

Ballerini expressed gratitude in her statement for nearly five years of marriage to Evans, a 37-year-old major label country artist from Australia. According to celebrity news site People, Ballerini and Evans met in 2016 at an awards show in Australia. The couple married on a beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in late 2017.

“With very busy schedules ahead, please keep in mind that we are both fragile, actively healing, and doing our best,” Ballerini said.

During their marriage, Ballerini rose through the ranks of Music Row to become an ACM and CMA Award-winning hitmaker known for songs like “Half of My Hometown,” “Hole In the Bottle,” and “Legends.” On September 23, the Knoxville native will release her next album, “Subject to Change.”

Evans’ most recent album, “The Country and the Coast (Side A),” was released last fall by Warner Music Nashville.
