Nairobi County Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria has stepped up his efforts to fight noise pollution in the city.
On Saturday, October 19, Mosiria raided Fay Bistrow, a nightclub in Kilimani, which is frequently patrons of Somali origin.
Mosiria said the raid followed constant complaints from neighbours who accused the nightclub of holding parties and playing loud music despite being located in a residential area.
“This is a bar and restaurant in Kilimani where they have been holding parties and disturbing neighbours. They play loud music with impunity causing noise pollution. We can’t allow this to continue happening and the time to restore order in Nairobi is now ,” Mosiria said.
However, the county chief officer had a tough time dealing with restaurant owners in Kilimani who frequently caused noise pollution to neighbours.
In a video shared by Mosiria, a woman of Somali origin is heard rowdy, confronting the county officers who stormed the club.
The woman, who is the manager of the nightclub, protested being recorded, but Mosiria insisted that the officers would record the raid to ensure openness and transparency in their action.
“We are recording for the purpose of our records. Why are you interfering with the neighbours,” Egyptian posed.
The woman called the club owner, who goes by the name Lugman, but Mosiria insisted that action would be taken against the club’s management.
“We are going to take legal action against you, and we are going with madam so that she is arraigned in court on Tuesday,” the chief officer told the club owner on phone.
Speaking to TUKO.co.keMosiria revealed that the rowdy managers ran away and locked themselves in the office to avoid arrest.
“They ran away. And locked themselves,” the county officer told TUKO.co.ke.
Previously, Mosiria stormed into a church at night and demanded they reduce the noise levels after complaints from residents.
He stated that the crackdown will continue in a bid to reduce noise pollution in the county.
Some netizens cautioned him to avoid touching churches, while others commended him for bringing sanity to residential areas.
