London jazz group GROWTH have shared new song ‘Three Piece Suit’.
The group found viral fame with their song ‘Abusey Junction’an ultra-chilled piece of afrobeat-inflected UK jazz who stormed across streaming services. Since then, they’ve played some amazing shows, with 2022 bringing their debut album ‘Could We Be More’.
Set to play the biggest headline shows of their lives this Autumn – including O2 Academy Brixton in London on November 27th – KOKOROKO have just laid out plans for a new EP.
‘Get The Message’ is out on November 1st, with new song ‘Three Piece Suit’ offering an uplift piece of pan-generational unity.
The song was sparked by a conversation between KOKOROKO percussionist Onome Edgeworth and guest collaborator Azekelmusing on the experiences of their respective grandfathers, who landed in Balham from Nigeria in the 1960s.
A song about pride in your heritage, ‘Three Piece Suit’ looks back to a period when dressing up was a radical gesture. Onome comments: “We wrote the song thinking of our grandfathers arriving in London and the way they carried themselves and dressed in the 1960s. They were part of a dapper and suited generation that sowed the seeds for the worlds we’re building now. It speaks to our sentimental memories of a time that we know we can’t have back”.
The lush arrangement is topped off by Azekel, who brings his own twist to the message. He adds: “The song is about coming back, letting go and realizing that all things, past, present and future are intertwined.”
Tune in now.
