The contracts are for surveying, design, engineering, procurement and construction of pump houses, gravity mains and distribution infrastructure in the Dewas and Dhar districts of Madhya Pradesh.
Together the projects will irrigate over two million hectares of agricultural land serving more than 500 villages.
The irrigation systems will lift 60 cubic meters of water per second from the Narmada River to irrigate 300,000 farms. Automated instrumentation, pumps and valves will ensure a round-the-clock supply of water during the winter growing season, says L&T.
The contracts are designated as “major” orders by L&T, which means they are worth between about £500m and £700m.
