On its opening night, the newest Harry Potter spinoff enchanted the domestic box office.
According to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo database, “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” made $20.1 million on its opening night on April 15.
A representative for Warner Bros. said the “nuanced changes” were made to “react sensitively” to the Chinese market when the film was censored for distribution in the country.
Following “Sonic the Hedgehog 2,” which took in $10.9 million on Friday and a total of $100.5 million, came “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”.
In third place was the action-adventure film “The Lost City,” which took in $2.1 million on Friday and has grossed $74.1 million since its release in 2012.
