The awardees for Variety’s upcoming Power of Women issue and event on Wednesday, Sept. 28, have been revealed. The celebration, which is held in conjunction with Lifetime, honours the Power of Women honorees, who will be featured on the cover of the issue, as well as the women who are profiled in the publication’s yearly Women’s Impact Report, which spotlights the most accomplished women in the entertainment industry.
This year’s honorees include Oprah Winfrey and Ava DuVernay, who will emphasise the value of hiring female directors as they did throughout the production of “Queen Sugar,” which is currently airing its seventh and final season on OWN; Hillary Clinton and Chelsea Clinton, who will highlight the significance of celebrating women and sharing their stories, as they do in their eight-part Apple TV+ documentary series “Gutsy,” which premiered on September 9; and Extracurricular Pro. Megan Stalter, the breakthrough star of “Hacks,” will host the show.
The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan, was selected as one of this year’s deserving recipients. In remembrance of Queen Elizabeth II’s recent passing, the Duchess’ cover will be delayed until a later time. She also won’t go to the Power of Women gathering later this month in Los Angeles.
Lifetime will unveil this year’s Stop Breast Cancer for Life PSA during the event, which will feature music legend Patti LaBelle and benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The PSA draws attention to the fact that Black women are 41% more likely than any other demographic to die from breast cancer and exhorts all women to obtain mammograms because early detection can save lives.
As a Premiere Partner, Google will honour Jacqueline Martinez Garcel with the Social Impact Award for the contribution she has made as the CEO of the Latino Community Foundation, a self-sufficient statewide foundation with the goal of supporting Latino leaders in California.
Cynthia Littleton, co-editor in chief of Variety, stated, “We’re pleased to once again shine the Power of Women spotlight on trailblazing and talented female leaders. “It is an honour for us to recognise those working to advance fairness, inclusivity, and excellence in our sector and who also make a significant impact on society at large through their philanthropic endeavours. We appreciate Lifetime’s steadfast support of this franchise, which has been a labour of love for the whole Variety team. The Wallis’ meeting beneath the stars this year looks to be another unforgettable evening.
According to Amy Winter, EVP and head of programming for Lifetime & LMN, “We are pleased to extend our partnership with Variety to showcase these remarkable women who continue to entertain us, teach us, and empower us.”
The top sponsors are DIRECTV and Google. City National Bank is the designated sponsor.
Honorees and attendees will receive customised gift bags filled with entertainment, beauty, wellness, and fashion items from brands as DOG PPL, Sunday Riley, Ouai, and Goop. In addition, Kendra Scott will give everyone of Variety’s 2022 Women’s Impact Report Honorees a personalised bracelet.
