Media men in the entertainment industry don’t get due credits – David Ovwiemedia Ikuuh

The Nigerian music and entertainment industry has numerous contributors, and one group that plays a significant role is photographers and videographers who showcase showbiz personalities to the world through their work. One notable figure in this realm is David Ovwiemedia Ikuuha highly creative photographer and videographer. His passion for entertainment has allowed him to capture many A-list Nigerian stars.

The Dubai-based young media personality whose craft and affiliation with top UK-based showbiz promoter, Billy Que has allowed him to cover various top artistes such as Davido, Kizz Daniel, Ruger, Tekno, Omah Lay, Wande Coal, Bella Shmurda, Portable, Small Doctorand some top Amapiano Artistes stated that the Nigerian entertainment is fast gaining global recognition. Sharing his views and perception of the Nigerian entertainment industry, he says, “Nigerian entertainment has gone global and the industry is getting bigger and better daily. I will advise that the practitioners in the industry should let love live in the industry”.

Speaking about what drives him into the showbiz world and what inspires his interest in the music and entertainment industry, he stated, “I have a passion for the media, and you know the only way to grow in the business is for you to get involved in the music and entertainment industry because they work together. And I was also fascinated by the glamour of the entertainment industry.”

Sharing his experience about working in Dubai and comparing it to Nigeria, he revealed how Dubai being a tourist destination with high-tech facilities has influenced the growth of the media and photography profession. “Working as a photographer and videographer in Dubai pays more and better because we charge per hour for our coverage compared to a full day in Nigeria. Getting equipment abroad is far cheaper than in Nigeria. Again, the current economic challenges of Nigeria are big problems hindering growth” he added.

He also speaks about how media personalities are not getting due recognition in the industry for their contributions to the growth of the industry, “The contributions of media men, especially the people who expose the industry through their works in photography and videography are not adequately being given due credits. Even it’s a problem crediting jobs done by people”.

Ikuuh started his media career as a light man in 1998 with his elder brother Mr. Michael Ikuuh in Sapele, Delta Statee and later grew to become an international media personality who has worked with so many top politicians and celebrities in Nigeria and UAE.
