Meek Mill is in a period of transition in his career. He’s stated that he no longer wishes to collaborate with the major label machine to release music, revealing that he’s had issues with Atlantic Records for several years. However, fans speculated that this could indicate a schism between himself and Hov, following reports that Meek and Roc Nation had split up.
Meek quickly put an end to the rumours on Twitter. He explained that he and Jay are friendly, as is the rest of the Roc Nation team. He stated that they parted amicably due to Meek’s ambitions to build his own music empire as an independent entity.
“All I saw today was Meek and Roc splitting up… I run my own business so that I can take risks and grow…we came to that agreement together. I have a label deal with roc for one of my artists, and I have a reform super deal with them as well as many other investments with Jigga “He tweeted about it. “And roc nation is my family; don’t confuse my post aimed at Atlantic with roc or MMG… They ain’t stopping anything I’m doing we made about a 100m together des mike and Hov saved my life before and put a lot of energy into it I’m not behind on my favours in life with my people I’m good”
Jay-Z largely avoided commenting on the rumours until this morning.
Hov expresses his admiration and love for Meek Mill on the title track of DJ Khaled’s God Did, which features Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, and John Legend. “Me and Meek could never beef, I freed that n***a from a whole bid/Hov did/Next time we have a debate about who the GOAT is, you donkeys know this,” he raps.
Meek responded by quoting a tweet from Chino Braxton, writing, “Never!!!!”
It appears that Meek and Jay-Z will be making some money plays in the near future.
